First Responder Suicide Prevention Program

The Will County Health Department’s First Responder Suicide Prevention Program aims to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and to reduce the incidence of death by suicide of first responders (police, firefighters and emergency services personnel).

Peer support, mental health awareness and intervention services

The First Responder Suicide Prevention Program improves access to peer support and mental health awareness and intervention services to our valued Will County First Responders and their families. The program team offer a wealth of expertise including experience as police and fire safety officers.

As part of our grant-funded program, our team will provide free mental health first aid and lethal means training to first responders who serve as embedded peer support members in their work setting. Education, mental health awareness and support to individual groups and family members are available with strict confidentiality.

Free resources, materials, linking to clinical services providers and training are available to all Will County First Responders and their family members for needed mental health support.
