CDC Stats Show 17.6% Increase in Syphilis Cases

The Will County Community Health Center is reminding Will County resident of the disturbing nationwide increase in Syphilis cases.  The most recent CDC data shows a 17.6% increase in Syphilis from 2015 to 2016, which amounts to over 27,800 new cases over that time frame.

 

Reported increases for various age groups include the following:

13.0% among  15 to 19-year-olds

8.1%   among  20 to 24-year-olds

19.6% among  25 to 29-year-olds.

20.1% among  30 to 34-year-olds.

22.1% among  35 to  39-year-olds.

12.8% among  40 to 44-year-olds.

13.6% among  45 to 54-year-olds.

25.0% among  55 to 64-year-olds.

50.0% among  65 and older

 

The Will County Community Health Center reminds all residents that everyone who is sexually active with persons whose sexually transmitted disease status is unknown among them should wear condoms at all times.

Testing and treatment are available at the Will County Community Health Center, as well as free condoms.  Walk-ins are welcome.
