Will County Health Department Celebrating National Public Health Week
WILL COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT
The Will County Health Department and Community Health Center are proud to celebrate National Public Health Week during the week of April 7-13.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary, National Public Health Week is celebrated annually during the first full week of April to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improving our nation’s health.
We are joining health departments across the nation in celebrating public health workers as they strive to help everyone in our community and to promote our communities’ health and well-being. Local public health agencies like the Will County Health Department are active behind the scenes every day, playing an important role in working to keep the community healthy and safe. Reports show that for every $1 spent on prevention, it saves $5.60 in health spending. Public health workers don’t do just one thing. Instead, they take on many different roles in the community to help protect people’s health. At the Will County Health Department for example, we
- Inspect local restaurants to make sure food is safely prepared.
- Test local well water supplies to ensure people have clean water to drink.
- Provide affordable medical and dental care at our Community Health Center.
- Offer behavioral health care.
- Screen and assess individuals dealing with mental health issues through our Mobile Crisis Response program.
- Provide food, nutrition counseling and referrals in our Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program.
- Prevent or slow the spread of infectious diseases in the community.
- Educate community members on health and safety guidelines and recommendations so they can make informed choices to protect their health.
- Help individuals enroll in health insurance, Medicare and Medicaid.
- Offer free Naloxone to combat opioid overdoses.
These are just a few of the services that are offered by the Will County Health Department and Community Health Center. Please visit our website at willcountyhealth.org to view our complete list of services.
If you know a public health worker, please thank them for their work during this National Public Health Week. More information on National Public Health Week can be found at www.nphw.org.
