WILL COUNTY RISES
Thanks to the efforts of so many in Will County, our vaccination rates continue to rise.
Will County moved to the 3rd most vaccinated county in the state from 90th place on March 9th. This place fluctuates daily, but we are now solidly in the Top 5 counties in the state.
This week we hit another milestone by crossing the half million mark – reaching 508,064 vaccines that have been distributed.
We have also reached 31.59% of our county being fully vaccinated or 218,699 individuals, which is up from 7.10% or 49,180 individuals just 8 weeks ago.
We continue to deliver over 4,000 vaccines each week at our clinics.
We are now offering walk-ins at our clinics and are working to increase vaccinations among younger populations and at-risk populations in the African American, Latinx and rural communities.

Joliet Native Joins WCHD as Vaccine Equity Manager
One of the biggest challenges over the last 15 months has been reaching those in our community that have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
For the WCHD (Will County Health Department), this challenge has brought about the hiring of Joliet native Vinita Voss to fill the newly created Vaccine Equity Manager position, a role that many local community leaders advocated for to address the needs of underserved communities.
A graduate of Joliet West high school, as well as Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia (with a B. A. in Political Science), Voss also has a Juris Doctorate from Vanderbilt University Law School. Her recent work in the Will County area highlights the importance of working with community partners to provide outreach, education, and resources for underrepresented populations.
WHEN WILL VACCINES BE APPROVED FOR AGE 12 and UP?
This week there have been reports that the CDC and FDA will be announcing their approval for the expansion of using the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for children age 12-17. We are currently monitoring this development and will keep everyone informed when and if this approval is made.
Until then, please continue to get your 16 to 17 year-olds vaccinated. They are eligible for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine which the FDA has authorized to prevent COVID-19 in individuals 16 years of age and older.
Parents or guardians must attend the vaccination in order to give consent and confirm the age of the individual.
You can schedule your appointment online or just walk-in to one of our clinics.
