Genoa Healthcare Pharmacy at Will County Community Health Center Adds Medication Disposal Bin

The Genoa Healthcare Pharmacy located inside the Will County Community Health Center has added a medication disposal bin for expired or unused medication.

The medication disposal bin is located in the lobby of the Will County Community Health Center (1106 Neal Ave. in Joliet), near the Genoa Healthcare Pharmacy.

Will County residents with expired or unused prescription or over the counter medication may dispose of the medication in the bin. It is recommended that any personal identifying information be removed or scratched out on the label before placing it in the bin. Medication may be kept in its original container or placed in a sealed plastic bag. Supplements, vitamins and herbal remedies are not accepted in the disposal bin.

The medication disposal bin is only open during operating hours of the Genoa Healthcare Pharmacy inside the Will County Community Health Center which is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

“Having a prescription take back box is important for the community because so often patients aren’t sure what to do with their old medications and end up throwing them away in the trash instead of properly disposing them,” said Stacy Baumgartner, Chief Executive Officer of the Will County Community Health Center. “This is a convenient way to make sure unwanted medication is disposed of safely and doesn’t end up in the wrong hands.”

The Genoa Healthcare Pharmacy at the Will County Community Health Center opened in April of this year. The pharmacy can fill all medications onsite, saving Community Health Center patients multiple pharmacy stops. The pharmacy also offers free medication mailing and no-cost pre-filled pill organizers to help keep patients on track and adherent to their medications. The Genoa pharmacy team can also assist with insurance plans and questions, including Medicaid and Medicare, and assist in transferring prescriptions from other pharmacies to Genoa Healthcare. Residents do not need to be patients of the Will County Community Health Center to utilize the Genoa Healthcare Pharmacy.
